Any experience using app to monitor fan function on iMac?

Looking for a way to see if the fan on one of our iMacs is still working, and if it still runs, does it run effectively. I’ve read that there are apps that can do this, but not sure if they’re legit. Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’ve used FanControl and a variety of its forks over the years for various fan activities.

No luck. Wouldn’t install on El Capitan.

I believe iStat Menus allows you to control fan speed. However, I can’t comment on how well it works since I only use it for monitoring.
