I’m not sure of the answer Greg, but I did experience this on an HP Spectre X360 today. I was updating the touch pad driver because of a security flaw in the older driver when it happened. Prior to that using HP Support assistant, I let it update Intel MGMT engine, the bluetooth driver, and rapid storage controller. Eventually after removing touch pad driver and keyboards (HID and PS/2) in device manager, the keyboard and touch pad started working. I thought it was odd that it started auto restore and asked for the KB layout, but I haven’t had time to research this issue yet. Hope it’s not widespread .
