we’re currently using Viivo Encryption software to secure our sensitive docs before backing up them to Dropbox. we’re planning on moving these documents to Office 365/Sharepoint. Do we need to use third party encryption software or does O365 have sufficient doc protection? the one major problem when using 3rd party encryption software is that in order to collaborate using these docs everyone who needs access to them also has to have the encryption software in order to decrypt them.
Sharepoint meets requirements for HIPAA, CJIS, etc. Unless you really feel the need to double down you should be fine with setting permissions on your document libraries. You will probably want to avoid enabling sharing outside your org from Sharepoint if you’re concerned about that.
